We want to thank all of our customers for continuing to support and utilize the library during these trying times. Over the past several months, we have worked closely with the Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale Health Dept.’s director to follow the virus trends and understand Gwinnett’s infection rates, testing capacity, and hospital capacity. There is now substantial data to show Gwinnett’s Covid-19 fighting infrastructure is becoming strained.
We also see rising numbers of customers visit the library without masks, exacerbating the potential for germ spread. As dedicated as we are to providing library service, we have reached the point where full service is too great a risk to both customers and staff.
After careful consideration, and in coordination with the Library’s Board of Trustees, we have decided that beginning Thursday, 7/23, GCPL will close our doors to the public and return to offering only curbside holds pickup service. Our hours will remain 10 am – 5 pm Mon-Sat and 12 pm – 5 pm Sun. We will also continue to offer virtual Book a Librarian appointments.
- The holds period will return to 21 days
- Book drops will remain open
- Three week check out periods and overdue fees will continue
- Branches involved in food distribution will continue this service
- Wifi access points will be moved to the front of buildings to increase wifi reach in the parking lots
Leadership will continue to monitor the situation and make changes when warranted.
We thank you for your patience and understanding. Stay well.
