At Gwinnett County Public Library we are committed to meeting the needs of our diverse community. One of the ways we meet this need is by offering Language Programs for many segments of our community. Whether you speak another language and want to learn English or speak English and want to learn a different language, we have a program for you. If you’re more interested in self-paced at-home learning, we also have a plethora of digital resources and other aids to guide and assist you in your studies.

Language Programs

We currently offer two programs, English in Your Language and Let’s Talk, for those who speak another language and wish to learn English. We also offer World Language, a program for those who speak English and wish to learn another language.

English in Your Language

This course is intended for beginners and those who have little English fluency. In these sessions, we focus primarily on teaching basic English skills. Upon arrival, a staff member will provide you with English practice materials, and assist you in your native language with any questions or difficulties understanding concepts.

We currently offer this program in the following languages:

  • Spanish
  • Korean
  • Japanese
  • Mandarin
  • Vietnamese

World Language Program

This program is intended to immerse native English speakers in a new language. Through relaxed conversations with speakers of these languages, we hope to help attendees gain proficiency in those languages with the assistance of a knowledgeable library staff member.

We currently offer the World Languages program in the following languages:

  • French
  • Japanese
  • Spanish
  • Vietnamese

Let’s Talk

This course is intended to serve intermediate to advanced English speakers by providing a relaxed conversational atmosphere for these learners to practice their new language skills. This program facilitates conversations and allows learners to practice their English and gain exposure to new vocabulary.

We currently offer four Let’s Talk sessions per semester, both in person and virtually. All conversations are conducted in English.
