A Long Journey to Safety is a bilingual, English and Vietnamese, book about Diep Nguyen’s experience as a refugee, fleeing Vietnam with the Boat People.

On Saturday, June 26th at 11 a.m. author Diep Nguyen will lead a virtual storytime with his book A Long Journey to Safety. Diep was around 4 years old when he and his siblings left Vietnam by boat to come to America. A Long Journey to Safety is a bilingual, English and Vietnamese, book about Diep’s experience as a refugee.

Diep currently is a kindergarten teacher in Gwinnett County, where he lives with his wife, Lan, and their two children, Donnie and Deanna.

The storytime and Q&A session will be hosted through zoom. Preregister for a link to the program.

Universal Scribbles 2021

Universal Scribbles is the Gwinnett County Public Library’s literary journal for teens, by teens. The magazine highlights the outstanding writing and art work of middle and high school students in Gwinnett County. The magazine accepts original fiction, nonfiction, poetry, graphic stories, photography, drawings, and paintings. Teens in grades six through twelve are invited to submit their original works. Universal Scribbles 2020

In 2020, a group of teens met once a week to learn about writing and to create Gwinnett County Public Library’s teen literary magazine, Universal Scribbles.  The magazine features essays, poems, and artwork expressing how 2020 has impacted their lives. The teens had regular meetings with Wanda Luttrell at the Buford Branch, as well as meeting with guest lecturer, author Kati Gardner.

The library offers digital literacy training to help students of all ages navigate today’s changing world; many also offer high-tech innovations like 3D printers and Learning Labs, providing hands-on opportunities for creative exploration. GCPL provides access and programs for students of all ages. For older children and teens, we supplement education with STEAM programs.
