Sanctoriums: Vessels Of Painful Stories is an ongoing series that is a study of the process of grief in its various expressions.

What emotions surface when we step into a culturally unfamiliar terrain and face formidable language barriers? Through moments of isolation, where language fades and emotions become the only form of communication, I start a silent dialogue between self and surroundings.

The blessing of a matriarch has always been a symbol of fortitude for the women after her and a show of respect for the women before her. My grandmother's blessing is nothing short of empowering and sacred. Supporting girls becoming women and appreciating women no longer with us.

Sometimes growth comes from death.

This photograph visualizes the act of looking past your flaws in order to fully confront the adversity you face. The subjects stand face-to-face with their shadows, showing the split conscience that many with self-doubt struggle with.

BJ's Car Wash (2024) is from a series of color film photographs that focus how the passage of time is reflected in the elements and textures in small town America.

I use the double exposure technique to create a visual effect of overlapping time. They symbolize the liminal state of the international student's sense of belonging - not yet fully rooted in this foreign land and no longer fully attached to the life we once knew.

The photograph depicts the role empathy plays in overcoming hardship, and how it takes strength to surpass one’s views to gain new perspectives. It is a play on the famous saying "put yourself in someone else's shoes," emphasizing the importance of considering other experiences.

I flow from one state of my thoughts to another. Nothing is the absolute truth, yet simultaneously, each moment contains a part of it. By living each moment of our lives consciously, we gain our own unique experience, helping the divine to manifest and reveal itself through us.

"Against All Odds" is an inspiring image that illustrates a beautiful reflection of the incredible love, strength and resilience of humanity.

I was so impressed to see the struggle of this plant to bloom amongst the roof tiles! It offers so beautiful flowers, living with almost no soil. This metaphorically teaches us that, regardless of difficulties, we should show fortitude and be able to thrive.

"Guardian (Hartense)" is an ode to my late grandmother, one of the sweetest and most beautiful people I had the pleasure of knowing. I know she looks over me to this day.

I’m a 34-year-old photographer based in Kazakhstan. It’s my mixed-media-artwork with polaroid emulsion lift. I am inspired by poetry and try to translate it into the visual language. I use the Polaroid camera, watercolor paper and paintings.
