Common Sense Media

Jan 5, 2026

Join our Common Sense Media Workshop series designed for teens and young adults to learn the importance of media literacy and online safety.

Six workshop topics will be discussed, each focusing on a different issue that can arise online that teens and parents should be aware of.

Big Brother is Watching
  • You might think you don’t use AI, but the truth is, if you ever touch the internet, you do! Your FYP is made possible by AI. Come learn how to make AI work for you.
Data for Sale
  • Learn about how companies are rarely transparent about how they’re using, selling, and storing users’ data. Sold or hacked data may result in teens receiving unwanted advertisements, marketing, or political targeting.
It’s Giving AI
  • It’s getting harder and harder to detect whether photos and videos are AI-generated. Teens attending this program will learn how to spot them, how they’re created, and the upsides and downsides to using AI.
Parasocial Relationships
  • Celebrities and influencers can feel like they are our friends even if we have never met them in real life! Explore questions like where to draw the line in fan support, how to spot an unhealthy relationship with an influencer, and how to help a friend who might be struggling.
Ride the Wave?
  • Join us to explore the line between belonging and peer pressure in the digital world through a bingo game and reflective discussions, learning strategies to support each other, and build stronger connections online and offline.
When the Tea Gets Toxic
  • When the Tea Gets Toxic explores the ripple effects of online drama, harassment, and hate. Participants will reflect on the challenges of speaking up and practice strategies for de-escalating online conflict.
