Your GCPL: Meet Lilburn Branch Manager Karen Harris

Describe your educational background?

Bachelor of Arts, Ohio Dominican College; Master of Librarianship Emory University

 

What inspired you to pursue a career in the library?

At the age of 10, I saw and Oral Tradition Storyteller tell a long story from memory! I knew this is what I wanted to do one day. I also spent every Saturday morning at the Public Library huddled in a corner…reading!

 

How would you describe your position to others?

I have the best job at GCPL; Branch Manager! I get to work with customers, staff and the community to market library materials and services relevant to customer needs.

 

What do you enjoy most about your job at GCPL?

I enjoy this mixture of customer service and administration. I especially enjoy working with staff to help them reach their potential.

 

What is your all time favorite book?

Daughters of England Series by Philippa Carr. There were 19 other titles in the series and I read every one!

 

What are 3 things you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy music, reading and creative writing.

 

What is something exciting about you that most people don’t know?

I have explored a variety of religions: In my life I have been a Baptist, a Catholic, Unitarian Fellowship, Unity of Christianity, Wicca, Quaker Fellowship and back to being Catholic. It has been a long and eventful journey.
