Celebrate National Library Week with GCPL!
National Library Week is observed on the second full week of April in the United States. This year National Library Week will be from Sunday, April 3 to Saturday, April 9.
During this week, there are also a few other library-related holidays. National Library Workers Day is observed annually on the Tuesday of National Library Week, this year is Tuesday, April 5. This is a day for library staff and administrators, friends of the library, and customers to show appreciation for everything library workers do for the community.
National Bookmobile Day, also known as National Library Outreach Day is celebrated on the Wednesday of National Library Week, this year it will be on Wednesday, April 6. On this day we celebrate the various outreach initiatives the library provides the community. Some of these initiatives GCPL strives to provide are the Mobile Library, Mailbox Books for home-bound customers, rental assistance, drive-through food distributions, and many more!
2022 Theme: “Connect with Your Library”
Since 1958, the American Library Association along with libraries nationwide celebrate this week-long observance that highlights the importance of libraries and the librarians that make them so special as well as the importance of reading. This annual celebration started in the 1950s when research showed that Americans were spending significant amounts of time watching TV and listening to the radio, to this day the week-long celebration lives on.
“Libraries are places where communities connect – to things like broadband, computers programs and classes, books, movies, video games, and more. But most importantly, libraries connect us to each other.”
– Molly Shannon, National Library Week Honorary Chair
