Did you know that in Gwinnett County, 51% of our children are not prepared when they enter kindergarten? Reading with your child daily is the best way to help them get ready. That’s why we challenge you to read 1,000 books with your child before kindergarten.
While 1,000 books may sound like a huge number, if you read a book before naptime and a book before bedtime, you’ll read 730 books a year! You and your child will reach 1,000 in no time.
To make keeping track of your reading easy, we’ve created our Kindergarten, Here We Come program in Beanstack. It’s free to join. Create an account and log every book you read with your child. Along the way, you can earn badges for reading, and completing fun, early literacy activities. Our librarians have designed all of our Early Learning programs to help your child be ready for kindergarten in Gwinnett County. When you reach your 1,000 book goal, come into your local library branch for your certificate of completion!
