Local Author Day

Gwinnett County Public Library will host a Local Author Day (formerly named Indie Author Day) on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 11 am to 2 pm at the Lilburn Library Branch. (4817 Chruch St NW, Lilburn, GA 30047).

This free event provides a platform for local writers to showcase their work, connect with interested readers, and network with other area authors. It is also an exciting event for readers to explore new authors, purchase books, and have them signed, as well!

Applications for this event will be accepted through September 1, 2024.

Local Author Day Criteria and Rules:

Participation in the Local Author Day is by the online submission form only. Based on the number of submissions received, it may be necessary to limit participation. Gwinnett County Public Library (referred to as Library) reserves the right to accept or refuse any submission at its discretion. If you are selected to participate, you will be notified by mid-September 2024.

Criteria for submission:

  • Priority is given to authors who reside within Gwinnett County, but authors from surrounding counties are also welcome.
  • Books must have been published within the last 3 years (2021-2024).
  • Books that were previously selected for Indie Author Day cannot be resubmitted.
  • All genres of books are welcome, but genres that appeal to a broader audience (e.g., historical fiction, romance, fantasy thriller, mystery, children/YA) will be given priority.
  • Only one book can be submitted.
  • The submission form and books for review must be received by September 1, 2024.

The publication quality, local interest, and artistic merit will also be considered. Books must be edited and published; manuscripts will not be accepted. Authors who do not have a printed copy of their book to sell are not eligible. Promotional material will not be considered in the selection process and will be discarded.

On the submission form, please submit only one (1) book to be reviewed. If you are selected, you are welcome to sell your additional books, although you are still limited to a single table.

How will this event be promoted?

We will advertise the event via the Library’s social media accounts, on the Library website, through in-house marking materials (flyers, posters, signs, e-display), and using traditional media sources (i.e., newspapers and community newsletters.) Authors are also strongly encouraged to promote the event through any networks or media outlets available to them. We are just as dependent on you to make this program a success.

Day of the Event:

  • The Library will provide each author with one 5-foot table and two chairs.
    • The Library cannot accommodate banners, posters, or other wall/ceiling hangings. Display space is limited to the table surface.
  • Authors must attend the event and be responsible for their own displays: including any money, cash boxes, products, tablecloths, or any other items they wish to use.
  • The Library is not responsible for collecting payments on behalf of the authors. We are not able to provide change, cash boxes, or credit card readers. If you choose to accept electronic payments, your unit must operate wirelessly, and its setup and configuration are your responsibility. The Library has publicly accessible Wi-Fi. The Library can not provide technical support.
  • Use of electrical outlets will not be allowed.
  • Authors are responsible for supplying their books for sale. Sales will be limited to the books, and no other merchandise can be sold during this time.
  • You must be willing and legally able to sell your books at the event.
  • The Library is not responsible for items left unattended during the event.
  • Chosen participants must provide the Library with a high-resolution headshot and book cover image within one week of notification. You agree to allow the Library to use these images as free promotional materials for the event.
  • Programs, events, and storytimes may be photographed and/or videotaped for Library promotional purposes.
  • The Library will not reimburse authors for travel or expenses. The Library will not pay authors for participation.
