What inspired you to pursue a career in the library?
I have always loved the library. Initially, I started working in the library because it was the job that was available at the time. I continued because I enjoy learning new things and helping people achieve their goals.
How would you describe your position to others?
I would describe the Branch Manager position as a Helper. In this role, I get to help people be successful, whatever that means to them. Whether it’s helping a customer find a job or buy a house, or mentoring a staff member towards a promotion. I also get to coordinate efforts in the community and hopefully make a difference.
What do you enjoy most about your job at GCPL?
What I enjoy most about my job is that I get to do a lot of different things throughout the day and the week. It varies – from handling administrative responsibilities, to talking with community members; from mentoring staff and working with my team on a project, to helping customers learn something new.
What is your all time favorite book?
What are 3 things you enjoy doing outside of work?
Toastmasters! Toastmasters! Toastmasters! While I enjoy reading and visiting with friends, I am most passionate about personal and professional development. Through Toastmasters, I see people grow and achieve their goals. It’s even more rewarding to see them exceed their goals and do things they never dreamed they were capable of doing.
What is something exciting about you that most people don’t know?
My love of music. I enjoy listening to a lot of different musical genres. But I especially enjoy the music of my Trinidadian heritage – calypso and soca music.
