Volunteer at the Library
Community Pride Never Looked So Good!
Here are just some of the ways you can help out
as a library volunteer:
| Adopt-a-Shelf | New Materials |
| Is there a section in the stacks that you have a particular fondness for? Maybe you like cooking, or fitness, or finances. When you adopt-a-section in the library, you help to maintain those materials so that everyone can enjoy them and find selections easily. |
Go behind the scenes as a volunteer in the materials department and be a part of the new books preparation process. This means placing clear plastic covers on hundreds of books, and identification markers on every item the library adds to the collection. This opportunity is available only at the Administrative Headquarters located behind the Lawrenceville Branch.
| Moving Items | Event Helpers |
Did you know that GCPL loaned over 7 million items last year? It takes a lot of hands to get those books from the return bin to the shelves. Exercise your organizational skills (and your feet!) while making a big impact at your local branch.
If you have attended a story time, puppet show, or author signing, you know that library events can be very exciting for both customers and staff. Be a part of the excitement by volunteering your time as an event helper or greeter.
| Finding Items | Beautification |
Have you ever had a book on hold? Every day library staff members track down hundreds of items for library customers. Volunteers can sleuth the shelves for requested items and help library staff complete their daily scavenger hunt.
The library is a busy place. Thousands of people come through our doors every day, and as you might imagine, it takes a lot of work to keep the library looking its best. A “beautification” volunteer is someone who enjoys maintaining the appearance of our shelves, displays, customer workspaces, and gathering places.
