To run Live Homework Help, you are required to install three browser plug-ins:

Shockwave 8.5 or higher, Shockwave printing plug-in and Shockwave copy & paste plug-in.

We recommend Shockwave version 8.5 as this works best with our service. Our installer will provide this version. If you already have Shockwave 10 installed on your computers, we have an installer that will provide you with the remaining required browser plug-ins.

You can download the installer at the following URLs:

Win9x / WinMe / WinNT4.0

If your computers have Shockwave 10 installed already, you need to use the following file to install the remaining required browser plug-ins: http://stuff.tutor.com/installations/hwh/HWH_SW10_P/Setup_SW10_P.exe

How do I adjust my sound levels and settings?

To set the input levels for AGC (automatic gain control) and set the outputs to mid-level, double-click on the speaker graphic on the lower right corner of your PC’s task bar.  This should bring up a Volume Control panel.  There will be a number of column sliders available, depending on the features of your PC.

How do I use Playback and Recording?

The control panel has two or more modes, depending on your version of Windows 95 or 98.  You will only be concerned with two modes, Playback and Recording.  The control panel defaults to the Playback mode (where you can set output levels), which is labeled ‘Volume Control’.  Recording mode (when you can set input levels) is labeled ‘Recording Control’.  To switch between Playback and Recording modes, choose ‘Properties’ under the Options menu.

How do I adjust playback volume?

Check that the control panel reads ‘Volume Control’.  If not, switch it.  Make sure ‘Mute’ is checked on the volume control panel at the bottom of the Microphone volume control.  This does not prevent others from hearing you – it prevents your speakers from feeding back into your microphone.  Under the ‘Options’ menu, make sure that the ‘Advanced Controls’ option in checked.  If it is not checked, select it.  Move the Microphone Volume bar to its highest setting.  Click on ‘Advance’.  At the bottom of ‘advanced’ make sure that ‘AGC for WaveIn’ or Microphone Boost’ is checked.  Select ‘Close’.

How do I adjust input/recording levels?

Switch to ‘Recording Control’ using the ‘Properties’ control under the ‘Options’ menu.  Make sure that ‘Microphone’ is checked under ‘Show the following volume controls’.  Close this panel.  From the ‘Recording’ Control panel move the Microphone volume temporarily to the middle and make sure the box underneath it is checked.
