Coming Up in January at GCPL

Never miss a beat. Know what’s going on at GCPL through the month of January. With 15 libraries in Gwinnett County we provide our customers with exciting and enlightening programs and resources for all ages. We’re highlighting some of our events—including, free classes, workshops, storytimes and much more—and you can always find more at  gwinnettpl.org/calender/.  We look forward to seeing you at your local branch.

 

January 1-2: New Years Holiday
All library branches and administrative offices will be closed for the New Years holiday.

January 8: Yoga @ Your Library
Treat yourself by exploring a practice that is widely used for health and relaxation. Learn techniques from a certified Yoga Instructor including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures designed to bring calm and mindfulness into your life.

January 9: Suwanne Toastmasters
Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. By regularly giving speeches, sharing feedback, leading teams, and guiding others to achieve their goals in a supportive atmosphere, leaders emerge from the Toastmasters program.

January 11: Windows 10 Training 
This workshop is offered by Gwinnett SenioR Learning Center (gsrlc.org). Gwinnett SenioR Learning Center (GSRLC) is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to teaching age 50+ to use Windows computers and some types of mobile devices.

January 12: Homeowner H2O Workshop
The Department of Water Resources developed Homeowner H2O to educate Gwinnett County residents about water conservation. The presentations focus on leak detection and repair, installing water-efficient fixtures, and increasing water-saving behaviors inside and outside the home.

January 14: A Writer’s Playshop featuring Heather Montgomery
Looking to enrich your writing and illustrating? Come play with language and ideas to bring your work to life. Join author Heather L. Montgomery for a morning of writing, sketching, and stretching your brain! Heather writes nonfiction for kids who love animals.

January 18: Photography Workshop

Join members of the Northeast Atlanta GNPA Chapter, which is dedicated to helping nature photographers of all skill levels improve their photography, learn and grow, meet other outdoor photographers, participate in great trips and events, help others understand the value of the natural world and give focus to a special area of interest in photography.

January 24: R.E.A.D. with Caring Paws
Children in 1st grade and older have the opportunity to sign up for a 15 minute one-on-one session with a trained therapy dog to practice reading skills.

January 29: Sensory Storytime
Join us for an interactive and educational storytime designed for children with sensory integration challenges that combines books, songs, movement, and more!

January 31: Let’s Talk
Let’s Talk is a relaxed conversational atmosphere for English language learners to practice their skills in an informal setting. This program is free and open to the community.
