About the Contest

Participate in the Chair-ish the Arts @ Your Library contest at your Gwinnett County Public Library branch!  As part of this year's Fall Into the Arts program series, Community members and groups are invited to re-imagine a chair or bench and enter their creative works into this fun contest.
 
The chairs or benches can be painted, cut, added to, collaged, stamped, drilled, built from scratch or otherwise decorated.  Your imagination is the limit!
 
 
 
 
Contest Details
 
 
Who can participate:
 

Anyone!  Individuals, groups, and even organizations may create chair art.  Chairs will be entered into the contest in one of two categories:
  • Individual
  • Organization

Contest Guidelines:
 
  • Individuals, groups or organizations may incorporate their name or logo in the design but it should not be the primary focus of the design.
  • Use any creative technique to create your unique design. Participants are responsible for obtaining a chair or bench for use. (Library property is not to be used for this event.)
  • The contest is a public display and therefore the creation must be appropriate for all ages and audiences.
  • Artists will work with appropriate media and finishes to ensure longevity of artwork that will be durable for one month period at minimum.
  • Deliver your art to any branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library in the month of September. Submissions must be received no later than library closing on September 30th, 2012.
  •  Entries will be displayed at library branches during the month of October. At the end of the display period, artists will be notified to retrieve their submissions.
  • Entries will be judged in a community contest via the Gwinnett County Public Library website and in-branch voting. A free Artists’ Meet and Greet will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012.
  • Complete the Artist Agreement and Submission Form, available at the branches when submitting an entry.

Contest Prizes
 
Winners will be chosen by the Gwinnett County community and will receive:
 
 
Individual:
  • A picture of the winning chair will be featured on the library website’s homepage for two weeks
  • An individual webpage will feature the winning artist’s picture, biography, and information on the winning design
  • A bouquet of gift cards valued at $100
Organization:
  • A picture of the winning chair will be featured on the library website’s homepage for two weeks
  • An individual webpage will feature the winning design, information about the organization, and a live link to the organization’s website

The library webpage averages more than 195,000 hits per two week period.  This is a fantastic opportunity to generate publicity for your art and/or organization!

Entries displayed in branches:
Throughout the month of October
 

Public voting for entries:
October 8th through October 31st

 

Artist’s Meet and Greet:
