To Get a Free Library Card...

Library cards are available at no charge to the following:

  • Residents and property owners in Gwinnett County
  • Employees of schools in Gwinnett County
  • Employees of Gwinnett County government or city government agencies in Gwinnett County
  • Students, faculty, and staff of Georgia Gwinnett College and Gwinnett Technical College

To get a library card you will need to present proof of residency, such as a valid driver's license, utility bill, lease or rental agreement. If you apply for a temporary card online you will have 7 days to come into a branch to complete the registration process.

Those who are not Gwinnett residents will need to provide both proof of current address and proof of eligibility for a free card, such as a student/faculty/staff ID.

Whether the original card is free of charge or provided for an annual fee, there is a $1.00 charge to replace a lost card.

Non-Resident Library Card

Anyone who does not meet one of the criteria listed above may obtain a card for an annual fee based on the amount a Gwinnett County resident contributes towards public library service, currently $30.

Library Cards for Minors

A minor (under age 18) may get a library card with parent or guardian permission. Parents/guardians are responsible for deciding what kind of library card their child receives. Cards are available with the following checkout options:

1. Checkout privileges for the entire collection
2. Checkout privileges for the entire collection except items in the
Parents' Advisory Section
3. Checkout privileges for materials in the Juvenile and Easy collections

Cards are also available with Internet access options for minors.

Organizational Library Card

Associations, businesses, churches, county government agencies, city government agencies, day care centers and schools located in Gwinnett County may obtain an organizational library card in order to check out materials that are relevant to the activities of the organization.

In order to obtain or update your organizational card, the following must be submitted to us annually on your organization's letterhead and signed by your organization's CEO or officer:

1. A statement accepting financial responsibility for all fines and fees incurred by anyone using the card. This includes fines for late materials and replacement fees for lost and damaged materials.

2. The CEO or officer's name, job title, and work phone number.

3. A four digit personal code (PIN) consisting of four numbers, which will be needed by all authorized users of the card to access the record.

4. Non-profit organizations must include their non-profit number in order to be exempt from fines.

5. Because organizational cards expire a year from the date issued, the above information must be submitted annually.

Anyone you wish to have access to use the card must know both the library card number and PIN.
