Special Needs Resources from GCPLGwinnett County Public Library offers services to our customers with special needs. Materials on disability-related topics are collected for all branches. Reference and circulating books can be found in the library catalog under "handicapped" or by looking for specific disabilities, i.e. "deaf" or "deafness." Most general information on disabilities and the Americans with Disabilities Act can be found by browsing the shelves at the Dewey Decimal Classification number of 362.4. The library supports the special needs population by providing access to print and electronic resources through a variety of assistive technologies available at the Lawrenceville Branch. Internet Sites Offering Disability Information: The Internet has a wealth of information for people with disabilities. Obscure syndromes and diseases with little or no print information can usually be found on the Internet. Keyword searching on any search engine will locate sites with information pertaining to a particular disability. This guide is limited to general disability resource sites. These sites offer comprehensive information on a number of different services for those with disabilities, their families and caregivers.
