Suwanee Branch
Teen Advisory Board Meeting Minutes

Suwanee's July 3rd TAB meeting:
Attendance was below normal (most likely due to the summer holidays), but we still had three of our regulars attend. We discussed the start of our Teen Book Club, and we also let the teens know that we have several programs in the works, including an origami craft exhibition and a handful of video game events. Everyone seems very excited, and Lisa and I are definitely eager to see our Teen Book Club get off to a good start!
Our first book discussion is scheduled for Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at 7:00 PM. We will discuss Alison McGhee's "Snap," and (if possible) we will arrange for coffee and cookies to create a laid-back, coffeehouse atmosphere.

Alyssa Kara
Kelsey Orezi
Madison Oreva
Daniel
Teen Rep
Lisa
Welcome
While we enjoyed Starbucks coffee and Milano cookies as we started talking about the book for our book discussion on The First Part Last.
Book Discussion
The teens enjoyed discussing the award winning novel by Angela Johnson. We roughly stuck to the following outline:
I. Why did I choose the book The First Part Last by Angela Johnson?
1) Appeals to various types of readers
2) In honor of Black History Month & Award winner
3) Author’s style is fresh and not preachy; different point of view
II. What did you think about the book, The First Part Last?
1) What kind of person was Bobby?
2) What do think the following quotes say about Bobby’s real feelings?
If you like, consider the following quotes:
“I walk to my room…look around my room and miss me”
"This little thing with the perfect face and hands doing nothing but counting on me. And me wanting nothing else but to run crying into my own mom's room and have her do the whole thing."
3) How does the title of the book connect to the story?
4) What did you like or not like about the book? Would you recommend it to a friend?
BookTalks
Following the book discussion, books by Angela Johnson were briefly presented as in the form of a book talk: Heaven and Bird.
Finally, teens were asked to share their favorite books-they definitely enjoyed this!
Note: In the future, we thought it would work best to allow teens to peruse the stacks and present one book they enjoyed.
Web Site
Running out of time, teens were told about the following web site and emailed a link. This site has an online book discussion monthly for young adults:

To generate ideas for future TAB events, we created a set of cards, each with an idea for possible TAB activities. To maintain the “bobbing” theme, each card had an image of an apple next to the idea. Each TAB member bobbed for a couple of ideas that were appealing to them and discussed it with the group. We then asked each teen to select their favorite idea to provide more direction for future activities.

Suwanee TAB Meeting Minutes – September 26, 2006
Attendees: Kelsey, Madison, Devon, Michael, Daniel and Teen Rep Chris
We opened our meeting with a quick word about our discussion of Kai Meyer’s “The Water Mirror.” Because not all of our regular members were present and because not everyone present was ready to discuss the book, we decided to push back our book discussion to our October meeting.
Chris also provided an update on the posters and interior design additions for our Teen Scene. Materials have already been ordered, and we’re currently awaiting their arrival so we can set up frames and posters. The TAB members also suggested a new display for the Teen Nook featuring our TAB members in athletic / active poses (in keeping with the theme of this year’s Teen Read Week).
We then discussed many of the upcoming activities at Suwanee and at other branches, including the Teen Read Week raffle, Open Mic Night at the Lawerenceville branch on October 14, the Teen Team Trivia Night at the Suwanee branch on October 17 at 7:00, and Dance Dance Revolution at the Five Forks branch on October 19.
In planning future events, the TAB members suggested additional activities involving video games (like DDR, Karaoke Revolution, Guitar Hero, etc) and some “stress-relief” programs around finals time (such as yoga, personal relaxation, etc)
Our next meeting is
scheduled for Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at 7:00 PM.

Suwanee TAB Meeting Minutes – August 22, 2006
Attendees: Alyssa, Kelsey, Madison, Devon, Michael, new member Daniel and Teen Rep Chris
We opened our meeting with the “Back to School” Mad Lib written by Sue from the Duluth Branch. The teens took turns thinking of words to fill in the blanks, and the result was a lot of silliness and a lot of fun!
We then discussed some of the “renovations” being made to Suwanee’s teen nook, including the black magnetic discs for posters advertising teen events. We are also planning on ordering hanging poster frames and two celebrity “Read” posters, most likely Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom. The TAB members also expressed interest in adding games to the teen nook, such as chess, checkers, or mancala.
We also discussed Teen Read Week 2006 and the theme “Get Active @ Your Library.” TAB members were very interested in creating a display for the teen area with pictures of TAB members in “active” (i.e., athletic, sporty) poses. We also considered other ways to be “active” (e.g., social awareness, creative imagination). We will also be hosting a Teen Trivia Night on Tuesday, October 17 -- details will be coming soon!
The TAB members also chose Kai Meyer’s “The Water Mirror” for an informal book discussion to be held at the beginning of our September meeting. The book discussion will start at 7:00, and our normal meeting will start at 7:30.
The TAB members also provided some suggestions for the Teen Scene web site, including a stylized or themed sidebar (maybe a stack of books?), a different color scheme, and a more unique font for the page headers.
We also discussed future meeting dates, and we determined that the fourth Tuesday of every month (in most cases) works for everyone. Our meetings for the remainder of 2006 will be held at 7:00 PM on September 26, October 24, November 28 (the week after Thanksgiving), and December 19 (instead of the day after Christmas).

Suwanee TAB Meeting Minutes –
July 25, 2006
Attendees: Alyssa, Kara, Michael, new member Sarah and Teen Rep Chris
We opened our meeting by discussing the Teen Vacation Reading Program. All of the teens seemed to have enjoyed the program as a whole, especially the performance by the Laughing Matters Comedy Troupe, which all of the teens at the meeting had attended. Chris mentioned that there would be a special after-hours performance at the Duluth Branch on Friday, July 28th, in case any of the teens wanted to see them perform again. The teens were also told that they could still sign up and participate in the Vacation Reading Program, especially since we still had a number of teen giveaway books available.
We also discussed Teen Read Week 2006 and the theme “Get Active @ Your Library.” The teens seemed very excited about the writing and poetry contest. The teens also suggested the possibility of a display in the teen area to highlight books promoting healthy, active lifestyles.
At our August meeting, the teens are planning to select a book (possibly from one of the Teen Book Club to Go Kits) for a book discussion at our September meeting. We’re hoping that this will promote the book club kits, as well as introduce local teens to TAB and the library’s programming for teens.
In planning our future TABleau program, we discussed cutting down our original list of titles so that it would more people would be able to participate in it. We also discussed the possibility of integrating the TABleau idea into another program, perhaps as a warm-up for a larger event.
Finally, we revisited GCPL’s Teen Scene and discussed changes that the teens would like to see. The teens’ suggestions included links to author web sites, games, book reviews, an archive of teen activities, polls, and a different color scheme.
Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at 7:00 PM.

Suwanee TAB Meeting Minutes
Attendees: Alyssa, Devon, Kara, and Michael and Teen Rep Chris
Because we anticipated at least one new attendee, we opened our meeting with the M & M's icebreaker suggested by RoseMary Honnold at [http://www.cplrmh.com/icebreakers.html ]. All of the teens really seemed to enjoy the activity, and we all learned about each other's taste in books, music, movies, and more.
After the icebreaker, we took a few minutes to complete the June Teen Monthly Activity and went over our answers as a group. Some of the teens hadn't read all the books mentioned in the clues, so some answers were exchanged between the teens if someone was having trouble.
Chris then discussed some of the upcoming events at the Suwanee branch with the teens, including the Vacation Reading Program and the Laughing Matters Comedy Troupe. Chris also notified the teens about the newly available Teen Book Club To Go Kits and shared with them what titles were currently available. Chris also asked for suggestions for displays in the Teen area and suggested the idea of “shelf-talkers” (originally developed by China at Duluth).
In planning our future TABleau program, we had selected four books at our last meeting for discussion, and we settled on the following scenes from each:
The Prince and the Pauper: Two people dressed alike, one with a crown.
The Adventures of Tow Sawyer: The fence-painting scene.
Anne of Green Gables: The “crashing the slate” scene at school.
The Giver: Wordplay guessing-game, similar to what we had decided to do with Redwall.
The teens decided that the four books to be discussed at next month’s TAB meeting will be The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, Inkheart by Cornelia Funke, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, and The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein.
Chris also mentioned the possibility of a Teen Movie hosted by Suwanee, pending approval of Events and Outreach and branch administration. Chris mentioned that the most likely titles would probably be either Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” or Joe Wrights’ “Pride and Prejudice.”
Finally, Chris showed the Teens the “Teen Scene” section of the GCPL website and let them know that he is need of suggestions for how the “Teen Scene” can be improved. He made certain that all of the teens had his library email address and let them know that any constructive suggestions and recommendations would be welcome.
Our next meeting will be held
on Tuesday, July 25, 2006.

Suwanee TAB Meeting Minutes
April 18, 2006
Attendees: Madison, Kara, Alyssa, Devon, and Kelsey and Teen Reps Chris and Bonnie
Our meeting opened with our discussion about Brian Jacques’ novel Redwall. First, we shared Mossflower Mix and Seaweed Grog, and then Bonnie led a craft activity in which we created our own mice, rats, and squirrels with pipe cleaners. After everyone had created their own critters, we moved on to the actual discussion of the novel, including a great conversation relating Redwall to the later books in the series and a collaborative poetry activity. Everyone in attendance seemed to enjoy the activities, the food, and the discussion.
After the book discussion, we completed the April Teen Monthly Activity and went over our answers as a group. Bonnie then made her announcement to the TAB group that she will be leaving Suwanee and will be moving to Ohio very soon.
Following Bonnie’s announcement, we thanked Madison’s dad for contributing the printing of bookmarks for our Redwall book discussion. We all signed a “thank you” card for Madison to take home to her dad in appreciation for his generous support of our TAB group and its activities.
In planning our future TABleau program, we selected four books titles at our last meeting and, after lively discussion, settled on the following scenes from each:
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: Werewolf transformation scene
Little Women: Jo’s hair
Eragon: Egg-hatching scene
For Redwall, the teens decided that a word game of some kind might be more appropriate for guessing the title of the book. The four books to be discussed at next week's TAB meeting will be The Prince and the Pauper and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery, and The Giver by Lois Lowry.
We also discussed the Teen Book Review Notebook. Bonnie passed around the form that she designed and asked the teens to take as many as they would like so that our Teen Book Review Notebook can get off to a great start.
In planning the Vacation Reading Program, Bonnie and Chris explained the need for volunteers to help with setting up and carrying out the various events that would be taking place this summer. A sign-up sheet was passed around for any of the teens interested in helping out with this year's Vacation Reading Program.
Finally, Chris and Bonnie solicited suggestions for future movies that could be shown as teen events at Suwanee. The TAB group seemed to express great interest in the most recent version of “Pride and Prejudice,” Tim Burton’s “Corpse Bride,” Nick Park’s “Wallace and Gromit” films, and various movies from the 1980s, including “Sixteen Candles.”
Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2006.

Suwanee TAB Meeting Minutes March 21, 2006
Attendees: Madison, Jeffrey, Kara, Alyssa, Devon and teen reps. Chris and Bonnie
Our meeting opened with the March Teen Activity and introduction of Chris, for those that had not yet met him. TAB members were also reminded of our upcoming movie, “Howl’s Moving Castle” at 2:00 on Saturday, March 25. Everyone was urged to bring friends and tell others. The E & O Real World CSI program at SUW on May 16 @ 7:00 PM was also highlighted.
Moving on to business, we continued our planning of the Redwall book discussion. The bookmark templates look great with a little more to get finished before they can be printed--Madison’s dad will print for us. Chris and Bonnie will work on the activities for the discussion. They will look into Redwall puzzles, games and food with hopes to create Mossflower Mix as a snack.
Last meeting we had chosen four titles to begin our planning of a future “TABleau” program. This sparked a lively discussion. Finally, we picked favorite scenes as follows:
The Hobbit - Riddles
Peter Pan – Shooting Wendy
Alice in Wonderland – Queen of Hearts
Wizard of Oz – Silver Shoes
The four titles for the next meeting will be Harry Potter III, Little Women, Redwall, and Eragon.
At our February meeting, we discussed a Teen Book Review Notebook for our branch. This month, Bonnie brought in a rough draft and will have the finished product at the next meeting so TAB members can begin their reviews. Still in the works from past meetings are the games for the Teen Area. We brought up the possibility of Teen Book Club Kits and took suggestions for titles.
Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2006.

Suwanee TAB Minutes – Tuesday, February 28, 2006 7:00 P.M.
Members present: Alyssa, Kara, Kelsey, Madison and Teen Reps. Chris and Bonnie
Our meeting opened with introduction of TAB members and new Teen Rep. Chris. We then moved on to the snacks, Monthly Teen Activity and balloon animals. Everyone enjoyed the activities and learned that being a clown is harder than it looks!
Our meeting started with a recap of recent E & O activities. Teens were reminded of the upcoming SUW showing of “Howl’s Moving Castle” at 2:00PM on Saturday, March 25 and E & O’s Real World CSI program on May 16, 2006 at 7:00 PM at SUW. Also noted the coming events at the other branches and told teens that they were welcome to attend any of the activities.
Next on the agenda was the book talk that we will have in conjunction with our April meeting. We will be discussing Redwall by Brian Jacques and will work on advertising at our next meeting. We decided to make bookmarks as publicity. Kelsey and Alyssa will work on this and bring their designs to the March meeting. We will also think of a few activities to add to the talk. Some thoughts are…Redwall art, a crossword puzzle, and/or catapult building.
Other old business involved the idea of TAB hosting a program where TAB members would act out scenes from well-known books and have our audience try to guess the book. We are saving this idea for the Fall to give us time to plan but will continue to work on it by choosing scenes from four books at each meeting. The four books chosen this month were The Hobbit, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz. We will all choose a scene from these, present our selections to the group next time, and make our final selection from those presented.
We also discussed the Book Review Notebook that we hope to place in the Teen Section of the SUW Branch. Bonnie presented several book review pages that she found online and we went through those to choose what to include on our page. We hope to have this finished and approved by the next meeting so that we can begin to fill the pages!
Still on hold are the board games for the Teen Area.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at 7:00 P.M.

Suwanee TAB Minutes – Tuesday, January 17, 2006 7:00 P.M.
Members present: Alyssa, Ayisha, Devon, Kara, Kelsey, Madison, Austin and Bonnie (Teen Rep.)
Our meeting opened with introductions, snacks and the Monthly Teen Activity. Everyone enjoyed trying to guess the book titles and the word search proved difficult. Since we had not met since November, we had a lot to discuss so we jumped right into our agenda.
The Teen Cover Art Contest was first to be discussed. The rules and entry form were handed out and TAB members were urged to participate, as well as read (or re-read) the book and take part in other Gwinnett Reads activities of interest. Next on the list was the announcement that Suwanee Teen Reps are planning an Anime Movie at the branch for Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. We are hoping to show “Howl’s Moving Castle” and are talking about having Bubble Tea and perhaps some other anime prizes and surprises. We then talked about the upcoming E & O Teen Events planned at our branch. Everyone was excited about Dance Dance Revolution on Feb. 16 at 7:00 P.M. and the movie “It Came from Outer Space” on Feb. 21 at 7:00 P.M. They were reminded to bring their space helmets for a chance to win a fabulous prize. Real World CSI will be rolling into the branch on May 16 at 7:00 P.M. and we think that will have a great turnout, as will the others. Each member present received a copy of the Winter Program and Services guides to remind them of upcoming activities at Suwanee and throughout the system. Some other new items that we talked about were having our TAB develop a Teen Book Review Notebook for the Teen Section. Several teens volunteered to help with this and will be getting a draft together soon. Suwanee TAB members will review some teen books once the form is complete in order to get the notebook started. Eventually, we will make the forms available for reviews from all Suwanee teens. The reviews will be subject to approval by appointed personnel. The last new topic of discussion was the suggestion that we purchase some games for the Teen Area now that our new teen furnishings are here. We think it would help to establish the Teen Area as a “teen” space. Recommendations of games to consider are Guess Who, Chess, Mancala, Othello, Checkers, Monopoly, Scrabble, Life, Password and a deck of cards. Bonnie will turn these suggestions over to the Branch Manager and Assistant Branch Manager for their input.
At our meeting in November, we began to consider having another book discussion and possibly making it into an event with games and other activities involving the book. After further consideration, we decided that we would keep it simple but advertise it more within the branch to, hopefully, get more teens involved in the discussion as well as interested in joining TAB. We will discuss the book Redwall by Brian Jacques at our April meeting. At the November meeting, Alyssa suggested that we could try to host a teen event where our TAB would act out different scenes from books (using tableaus and vignettes) and have the audience try to guess the book. We went further in depth with this discussion and came up with a list of popular books that would lend themselves to this type of program. We had several unanswered questions plus, we would have to get approval, so Bonnie will check into it and report back.
Our next meeting is scheduled for the same night and time as the teen movie “It Came from Outer Space”. It is impossible for some of our members to meet earlier so we decided that we would change our meeting night. Upon checking the Community Room schedule…our next meeting will be Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at 7:00 P.M.
Members Present - Kelsey, Alyssa, Kara, Devon, Madison, Jeffrey, Ayisha, Austin (guest) and Bonnie (SUW Teen Rep)
Our meeting opened with the usual sign-in and introductions for the benefit of guest Austin and new member Ayisha. Everyone was also given a copy of the November Teen Activity and all seemed to enjoy the crossword puzzle and especially enjoyed working on it together. Prize coupons were distributed to all.
Our first item for discussion was the newest Teen Events flyer. Each person received a copy and we then talked about the events and highlighted those taking place at our branch. The publicity for Buford's Open Mic Night was also given out and everyone was encouraged to attend as well as spread the word to others. We talked about the possibility of another book discussion sometime in the coming months. We would like to do something with Redwall or The Lord of the Rings. We talked about making it a festival as well as a book discussion. Most of our TAB members have read these books already but feel that they are so good that they would be excellent to use for the purpose of drawing in more participants and to encourage reading. The "Tabbies" were then briefly tempted by the suggestions of the E & O activity possibilities for the coming months and they seemed very excited. Oohs and aahs were heard for the potential DDR and CSI programs. The teens were told that Gwinnett Reads would be including some activities especially for teens and to keep watching for more details. We also discussed other suggestions for SUW TAB sponsored activities at our branch and we will try to have more details and suggestions at our December meeting.
Under old business we discussed Teen Read Week. Some in our group entered the writing contest, although no one was declared a winner. It was announced that an anthology was made and was available to check out or purchase. We also went over the book display in the branch that TAB organized. It was well received. The pictures of the teens that were used as part of the display were given out to those pictured. Teens also appreciated the daily drawing to win a teen book and we had many entries. Our Game Night in conjunction with Teen Read Week went well. It turns out that it was not a convenient night for most of our group to attend but 12 teens did participate. It brought attention to TAB at SUW in a non-threatening way and several applications were handed out. Everyone that came enjoyed the games and the snacks.
With time running out and no more business to discuss, our meeting adjourned.
Next Meeting: 7:00PM Tuesday, December 20, 2005
____________________________________________________________________________________________________
7:00 P.M. – Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005
6 Present: Devon, Jeffrey, Kelsey, Madison, Marissa and teen rep. Bonnie.
The meeting opened with sign-up and each teen was given a copy of the August Teen Activity to complete for a Wacky Reader Ice Cream prize. In addition, a note to Ryan’s Family Restaurant was passed around for signing to thank them for providing snacks for our meetings.
First on the agenda was reviewing the upcoming teen events that will be held in Suwanee as well as the other branches. Each teen was advised to check the GCPL TeenScene website weekly to keep current with all the things going on system-wide. We then discussed the Teen Writing Contest and warned of the impending deadline. We also talked about Teen Read Week and what we should do to celebrate. We will be making a book display of TAB favorites, complete with photos of TAB members reading. A sign-up sheet went around for those that want to come in to the branch to help set up the display. Jeffrey will take the individual lists of favorite books and compile them in order so we can post a master list or perhaps make bookmarks to accompany our display. Release forms were given to those who had their pictures taken at the last meeting and told to turn them in ASAP. The final item of business was to discuss the possibility of TAB hosting a Game Night open to all teens at our branch. It will be held on Oct. 24 from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. (if the room is available) and we will supply board games and snacks. It will be a dress-up night and teens will be urged to come dressed as their favorite book character or author. We signed up to bring games to avoid duplicates. Bonnie will send out an email to TAB to let then know what, when and where snacks are needed. An email will be sent later to get help with publicity and planning.
Before the meeting ended, we had our book discussion on Full Tilt by Neal Shusterman. Only several people had finished reading the book so the discussion did not last long. The reviews from TAB were mixed. Even though it was not the kind of book that some of us typically read, we still thought it had a good story line and character development. Those that had not started or finished the book agreed that it was book that they will want to read.
Our next meeting will be the Teen Game Night on Monday, October 24 unless otherwise instructed. I will be calling or emailing members to get commitments regarding publicity, refreshment and games.

7:00 P.M. - Tuesday, August 16, 2005
8 Present: Alyssa, Christine, Devon, Jeff, Kelsey, Madison, Sophia (guest), and Bonnie (Teen Rep.)
As the meeting started, a sign-up sheet was passed around and introductions were made. Everyone received an entry form for the August Teen Activity and tried to guess the number of Office Depot items. We all had some good laughs and got to know one another a bit better with an icebreaker where everyone had to tell things about themselves for each sheet of tissue that they took.
Bonnie then told of the upcoming E & O events that would be taking place within GCPL for teens in the next few months. We also recapped some of the programs that were held during the summer. No one had any comments or suggestions. Those that attended and participated enjoyed themselves. The teens were reminded to keep checking the TeenScene website weekly for any changes.
At our meeting in September, we will be having a book discussion. This brought about a lively conversation concerning what book we should choose. It was decided that Bonnie would choose and send out an email letting everyone know. The book will be Full Tilt by Neal Shusterman. We also discussed a teen book display in the branch. Everyone submitted 5 to 10 of his or her favorite books of all time and we will work on putting the display together for October to help celebrate Teen Read Week. We took digital pictures of the TAB interacting with each other and books. They will be incorporated into the display as well as maybe having the favorites listed on a bookmark in some way. We briefly talked about having a Game Night for the branch and perhaps turning it into an event around Halloween so that they could dress-up...maybe as favorite book characters/authors. We will talk more about this at our next meeting.
The next meeting is planned for Tuesday, Sept. 20 @ 7:00 in the Suwanee Branch meeting room.

SUW TAB Minutes – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 21, 2005
Members Present: Alyssa, Kara, Zaak, Madison, Kelsey, Devon, Colin, Grayson (guest), and Bonnie (SUW Teen Rep.)
The meeting opened with sign-in and then the June Teen Activity as an icebreaker. The teens worked together to complete their crossword puzzles and were rewarded with an ice cream treat coupon. We then introduced ourselves (especially for the benefit of new Teen Rep. Bonnie) and welcomed guest Grayson.
First on the agenda was an explanation of the Teen VRP. Members were urged to go online at the branch or at home to sign up. The goals and rules were explained and the prize was mentioned. Next, the Teen Branch Events half sheets were distributed to each member and we went over the events and the dates that they were taking place at SUW. Everyone was encouraged to attend and tell his or her friends. The band concert in Lawrenceville was also highlighted and everyone seemed excited. The possible program sheets were passed around and we discussed each one and took a vote as to which ones we would be most likely to attend. The top vote getters were the Slam Poetry, Improv, and Mime shows. Vaudeville, La Commedia Sprezzatura and Creative Thinking were next and finally, minimal interest was shown for the Camera-less Photography Workshop.
As a service to the branch, we discussed creating bookmarks promoting TeenScene and teen reading in general. Everyone seemed very excited about this and everyone took a bookmark template with them to work on at home and bring back at the next meeting. These will then be sent to E & O for approval and hopefully, make it to our branch for distribution! We also talked about how things are shelved in our branch and again to serve the branch, we split up into groups and following the meeting, we will go into the branch and shelve in the Teen Section.
For our old business, those that attended the Jillian’s Bowling Party said they had a good time. Others were encouraged to attend any future TAB only functions. Everyone was reminded that there is a new Teen Activity in the branch each month and they can complete it for a prize. Finally, TAB members were asked to check their summer calendars once again to see if they could volunteer for any of the VRP programs. A list of dates would be re-emailed and anyone available should respond to Bonnie ASAP.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 19 @ 7:00 P.M. Since this is the Improv Night at the branch…there will be no official meeting.

2. Announcements
· Thank you to Marissa, Madison, and Kelsey for helping with Read Across America!
· Handed out flyers for the Duct Tape program at Suwanee on Monday, April the 25th at 7 PM
· Discussed the bowling party which will be Monday, June the 13th. Teens were enthusiastic about this event.
· Briefly discussed the events planned for this summer (2 movie nights, improv night, and the writing workshop). Several teens mentioned Napolean Dynamite as a movie they would like to see for a TAB event.
· Discussed plan for next meeting. Everyone seemed to think that having the April TAB meeting after the Duct Tape program would work best (8:00-8:30 4/25)
3. Book Discussion—Eragon
· Lively book discussion covering many of the themes in the book as well as how Paolini’s writing developed as the book progressed. Lots of speculation as to what will happen in Inheritance, the next book in the trilogy.
4. Closing
· The teens enjoyed the book discussion and are interested in having another one soon. They will email title suggestions to Mandy and Jessie who will then narrow the lists down to three possible titles. Teens will then vote on which title they would like to discuss for our next booktalk which will be sometime during the second week of May.

Teens Present: Devon D. Marissa M. Alyssa M. Kelsey F. Jeffrey A. Madison M. Teen Reps: Jessie Copeland Mandy DeMott
Welcomed the returning teens and introduced the new teens to the group. Explained what the TAB’s purpose is for the benefit of the new teens. Briefly recapped the first TAB meeting.
Asked the teens for suggestions for a book discussion. Eragon by Paolini was emphatically chosen by all the teens. Teens did inquire about the possibility of doing a book discussion with a book not from the Teen section. The Lord of the Rings trilogy was one suggestion.
Madison, Devon, Kelsey and Marissa all volunteered to assist during the Read Across America program on March 2 between 6 and 7 pm.
Announced the date for the Duct tape program in April.
Discussed possible programs the Teens would like to see here at the library. Poetry nights, movie nights were enthusiastically endorsed. Also some of the Teens mentioned a short story contest as an alternative for poetry. Several of the teens mentioned playing musical instruments and had an interest in holding a performance at the library. (Perhaps as background music, etc) Author visits were also mentioned as an attraction.
It was suggested that we create a Teen Fav Picks list that the Teens could suggest possible titles for and then perhaps write a blurb or review for the book.
SUW’s next TAB Meeting will be Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at 7 pm. At the next meeting we will be discussing the novel Eragon.
