Meeting Minutes
June 14, 2008
Present: 4 TAB Members – Emily, Tabitha, Vishnu, and Shelby
1 Visitor – Veronica
2 Teen Reps – Suzanne & Nancy (for Kristi)
Welcome to two more new members today Emily and Vishnu! First order of business after introductions - we made sure that everyone had signed up for SRP and completed a trivia entry form if they wished. Today we had our Summer Reading Program “T-Shirt Revitalization Project.” We used stencils with fabric paint and bleach and even attempted to make our own stencils out of freezer paper – not easy! This is a fun project but takes some practice. Everyone took home their handiwork for additional drying or bleaching out before wearing. Now that we’re pros we’ll have to do this again.
While we worked we enjoyed bug bites cookies (in keeping with our SRP theme Metamorphosis @ Your Library) as well as chocolate chip cookies.
I told our teens about our henna program coming up July 5 and gave out the permission slips. So – that will be our next meeting – Saturday, July 5 at 10:30. The upcoming meeting will be longer than usual, probably 2 hours, in order to do the henna.
Also, thanks to Nancy for all her help today in Kristi’s place.
Today we welcomed two new teens Lindsey and Laura before we began our TAB kick-off for both the children’s and teen Summer Reading Program. First, our teens signed up for the program and we told them about the trivia and bookmark contests and some of the other activities this summer. We then headed for the children’s room to read bug-themed books to our younger visitors and painted ladybugs, butterflies, etc. on their faces.
As an end of the school year treat, we enjoyed pizza, cokes, and cookies. We also recognized Andrew for his outstanding achievement in reading Accelerated Reader books. He read 449 books and amassed 7,528 AR points over his three years at Pinckneyville Middle School to win the highest AR reader award for all three years!
Coming up is our next meeting/Teen SRP event T-Shirt Revitalization Saturday, June 14, 10:30 – 11:30 am.
We had a good turn out for our meeting today. The purpose of this meeting was to prepare for the upcoming Summer Reading Program “Catch the Reading Bug”. During our kick off our teen group will have story-time, reading Bug themed books to our younger visitors. We will also have a face painting station where we will paint bugs on children’s cheeks or hands.
For this meeting we went over story telling techniques and searched for bug books on our catalog and then found them on the shelf. We showed them where the story telling would be done, and then went over face painting techniques. Turns out we have some aspiring artists in our group.
For snack Kristi made some “Bucket of dirt” cupcakes complete with gummy worms that we had a lot of fun eating. We reminded everyone about the book review raffle and several took entry forms. We also talked a little about our teen Summer Reading Program. Our teens are really looking forward to the upcoming meeting and Reading Program Kickoff - May 24 is the date!

Today, in conjunction with Teen Tech Week, we had our Comic Book Workshop presented by Kyle Puttkammer of Galactic Comics. We had a great time learning to draw characters from comic books and also learning about how the process of creating a comic book actually works. We are all pros now! Kyle is a very good instructor and we appreciate his coming to PCR.
We talked up the book review contest and handed out the guidelines and entry forms to everyone. We also displayed drawing books which some of the teens looked at and/or check out.
We announced that our next Meeting is Saturday, April 19 – same time 10:30 am.

Today was our annual Game Day and was a laid-back fun time. We did not have a big crowd but what we lacked in numbers we made up for with words – as in Scrabble! With lots of board games available, everyone gravitated toward Scrabble and we played that until nearly time to go. We enjoyed cappuccino, hot chocolate, brownies, doughnut holes, fresh strawberries and other munchies while we played. We finished off our gaming with a round of Bingo with James as our winner of a Target gift card.
We discussed upcoming plans but admittedly didn’t get too far in our planning since everyone was absorbed in the game. We talked some about the upcoming Teen Tech Week in March and of the activities suggested, our group seemed most interested in having someone do a Manga cartooning workshop. Kristi and I will look into that. We decided on our next meeting – Saturday, March 8.

“Holiday Gifts – Why Buy ‘Em When You Can Make ’Em ?!” was the theme du jour. This was a gift-making activity for Christmas, Hanukkah, & Kwanza. Kristi and I had chosen some craft ideas from various sources and stocked up on supplies so everyone could make whatever they wanted and as much as they had time for. This was also our holiday get-together so there were Christmas tree and wreath cookies, other savory munchies, and cappuccino, cocoa, and apple cider. We had a great time making foil animals, bottle cap jewelry, duct-tape items, candle holders, and various items from our supply. We ended up with some really nice and some fun gifts, and also with leftover supplies to be creative another time.
We encouraged all to enter the raffle drawing for the two Medieval Times tickets. We will decide our nest meeting date later.

Tonight we made our Teen Read Week t-shirts with the “Laugh Out Loud at Your Library” logo. Everyone supplied a plain white t shirt and I ironed on the transfers made earlier (with Kyle’s help). While I did this everyone worked on ideas for the t-shirt back. We’re trying to come up with something that has TAB and Peachtree Corners Branch on it. Our teens worked on different ideas from which we’ll decide to use or incorporate in our final design.
We enjoyed snacking on trail mix while our creative juices flowed (or maybe just dripped!) We talked about Teen Read Week and the activities at the Gwinnett Reading Festival Oct. 20, including the costume contest, and urged all to participate.
Our next meeting date is to come later.

2 Teen Reps – Suzanne and Kristi
Today we discussed Avi’s Crispin – The Cross of Lead. We passed out some discussion questions so everyone could be thinking about them a bit before we actually started. We also passed around a big chunk of bread and “ale” (ginger ale) since that is mostly what the book’s characters ate and drank. We also enjoyed some modern day munchies Meili brought. We had a good discussion and everyone agreed that they enjoyed the book. We also shared some of our other good reads.
The next order of business was discussing Teen Read Week, Laugh out Loud at Your Library and the finale during the Gwinnett Reading Festival Oct. 20 at the fairgrounds. Everyone said they would like to participate. Since there is so much going on for teens at the festival we decided not to do a major Teen Read Week activity. We may however try to make t-shirts at our next meeting to wear for the festival. We told everyone about the writing contest and gave out the rules and entry forms.
Our next meeting will be a different day and time – Thursday, Oct. 11 at 7:00 p.m.

We were very happy to welcome our newest member today, James A., Andrew’s brother, and introduced everyone around. This was our follow-up meeting for our Reading Takes You Everywhere photography project with Dewey our library mascot. Unfortunately, the photographer we had scheduled to speak to us was unable to come today but we may try to snag him at another time.
We all brought ingredients for trail mix to go with our theme and the “trails” we had been on this summer. While munching our trail mix we talked about what we had done this summer and then got down to work on our Dewey collages. These are displayed in our Teen area. Teen Read Week was briefly discussed but we’ll decide next meeting what activity we’d like to do for that. We will also discuss Avi’s Crispin: The Cross of Lead.
Our next meeting is Saturday, Sept 15 at 10:30 a.m.

June 9, 2007
Present: 6 TAB Members – Elizabeth S., Brittany, Nick, Shelby, Tabitha, and Olivia
2 Teen Reps - Suzanne and Kristi
We welcomed two new members, Brittany and Shelby, as well as our new teen rep, Kristi Aliaga. We did an icebreaker where we would each introduce ourselves and name something we like starting with the same letter as our name. We went around the circle introducing ourselves and everyone before and the things we liked. No memory problems here!
We went over the new guidelines very briefly to give our members a framework for their ideas. We also talked about an idea for a book group another TAB member had suggested to discuss books assigned for reading at school. This would be good, but we quickly realized the assigned reading would fall into the adult category and thus would not be permissible under the teen guidelines. However, we are going to always include a book share time in all our meetings and try to have another book discussion based on one of our teen book club kits or a title with plenty of accessible copies.
We explained our summer “Flat Dewey” project based on the VRP theme - Reading Takes You Everywhere and the classic Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. Our teens cut out Dewey the dinosaur from card stock and attached him to sticks. They are to take him wherever they go and photograph him (with themselves if possible). Everyone will bring their photos in to our August meeting and we’ll make a collage, poster, map, or whatever depending on our Dewey pictures and ideas our teens have given us. We made sure they have our email addresses to send us any ideas they have for our “photo finish”. A big thanks to the Grayson TAB for sharing their idea with us!
We also talked about what we’re reading and enjoyed muffins, cookies, and munchies while working on our project. To help our members with their book selections, Kristi and I gave everyone the YALSA lists of the nominations for the top ten books of 2006 and the winners list. We talked a little about Teen Read Week Oct 14 – 20 and we encouraged the teens to stop by the VRP table and sign up on their way out.
Our next meeting will be our back to school program and the follow-up to this meeting, Saturday, Aug. 18 at 10:30 with the program “Where did reading take you this summer?”
May 19, 2007
Present: 8 TAB Members – Meili, Elizabeth H., Nick, James, Yamani, Elizabeth S., Andrew, and Awet
2 Teen Reps - Suzanne and Ashanti
Since today was so gorgeous, we all went outside to the picnic table to have our meeting. Unfortunately, it took about 2 seconds to discover it was a bit too chilly in the shade with the breeze blowing and we trooped back inside to the quiet room.
We began our meeting with a crazy ice breaker mad-lib which was our “interpretation” of a job application. We thought this might be appropriate for those seeking summer jobs. Boy – I hope no one turns in an application like that!
Our main focus was a discussion of changing trends and technology in libraries. We talked about Myspace and its library links as well as other teen sites such as Library Thing. We discussed how books such as the Harry Potter series have so positively influenced reading.
We then segued into sharing favorite books and, although we acknowledged many teen reads are excellent, our TAB group feels the teen books are for the most part written for a younger audience and overwhelmingly prefers adult books.
As an end of the school year treat, we enjoyed pizza, punch, cookies, and homemade brownies along with our discussion.
Today we particularly wanted to honor our graduates, Justin, Theresa, and Deanna, but they were unable to attend. We have a little surprise for each of them and will see that they get them later.
Last but not least, we bid farewell to Ashanti with a card signed by the gang and a certificate.
She is transferring to the Lilburn branch and will definitely be missed.
With everyone’s summer trips, etc., we’re not really sure when we’ll meet next but we’ll get in touch soon about our plans.
PANIC AT THE PROM
April 13, 2007
Present: 11 TAB Members - Justin L., Andrew, Olivia, James, Elizabeth S., Deanna, Nick,
Meili, Awet, Theresa, and Justin J.
4 Staff –Meredith, Kyle, Ashanti and Suzanne
4 Guests
Friday night, April 13, part of the Peachtree Corners branch was turned into Centerville High School for the mystery dinner party game, Panic at the Prom. TAB members arrived as the library closed and began decorating for their prom with the theme “Saturday Night Fever”. Record albums and books with themes from the 1970s were set up all around , streamers and sparkly stars floated above, and 70’s music set the tone. The TABs transformed themselves into their characters and after making their entrances, gathered around to see the announcement of the King & Queen of the prom. As the King & Queen (Awet & Theresa) danced under the disco ball, suddenly the “sprinkler system” came on and soaked them and everyone else EXCEPT for 8 students who stayed completely dry. Could one of them have been the one who set off the sprinklers and caused such distress?!
The students sat down to dinner wondering which of the 8 suspects had sabotaged their prom. As they sipped their punch and enjoyed a three-course dinner of vegetables & dip, cubanito sandwiches and chips and dessert, they eyed one another suspiciously. With the game cards and clues, they questioned each other and ended up discovering some interesting secrets about each other as well as the person who caused the Panic at the Prom.
We all enjoyed ourselves, and as we cleaned up we talked briefly about our next get-together.
We will decide for sure a little later.
Feb. 24, 2007
Present: 5 TAB Members – Justin L., Thereshana, Andrew, Deanna, and
Justin J. 2 Reps – Suzanne and Ashanti
(7 patrons stopped by at various times to watch “Harlem Renaissance”)
For Black History Month we viewed the documentary “The Harlem Renaissance” while enjoying some of our CoffeeHouse “left-overs”. We all learned quite a bit from the documentary, which was primarily about the art of the Harlem Renaissance.
We then discussed the two Spring activities we’d like to do – Panic at the Prom and a Spring Fling and possible dates. Justin said the volunteer club at Norcross High School could get behind the Spring Fling (as they did for our Fall Festival). With Spring break coming up the first week of April, we decided to do Panic at the Prom first, probably the first Friday (Apr. 13) after the break. At our next meeting we’ll choose our roles. Another TAB did this and had a great time so it should be fun.
After some discussion, we decided on a quote from Thoreau as the “title” of our creative display area – “The world is but a canvas to the imagination.”
We will make a collage-style poster with the Fall Festival photos currently displayed and place it in the main part of the library to hopefully catch to eye of TAB prospects and/or their parents.
Ashanti reported on the progress the Teen Scene subcommittee has made. It’s really looking good!
A TAB member had inquired earlier about having our meetings later than 10:30 but the consensus today was to continue our 10:30 meeting time.
Our next meeting is Saturday, March 17 at 10:30 am. (St. Patrick’s Day)
We will decide who takes which role for Panic at the Prom.
Valentine Coffee-House
February 10, 2007
Present: 7 TAB Members – Justin L., James, Deanna, Elizabeth H., Elizabeth S., Awet,
and Andrew
2 Visitors: Tony and Me Lie
2 Reps: Suzanne and Ashanti
We had a wonderful time at our valentine coffee-house/book discussion. We decorated with colored lights, hearts and valentines and set out all sorts of goodies to go with our french vanilla and double mocha cappuccinos, hot cocoa, and spiced apple cider. We opened our discussion with Cornelia Funke’s Inkheart . Since not everyone had a chance to read it, our discussion was fairly short but interesting. Our discussion of Lois Lowry’s The Giver produced lots of meaningful discussion about issues such as euthanasia, the meaning of life in a society with virtually no choices or opportunities for deep emotions, and the role of “separate societies” (such as the Amish) in our culture.
We talked about our upcoming documentary “Harlem Renaissance” on Feb. 24 at our regular meeting time of 10:30 and also asked everyone to be thinking about what to call our creative display space. We’ll decide at the Feb. 24 meeting.

Meeting Minutes
Dec. 2, 2006
Present: 2 TAB Members - Andrew and Yamani
1 Staff – Suzanne
Our focus today was to plan for 2007 and, in spite of our small group, some good ideas were generated. We snacked on homemade “merry munch” and discussed the following:
Book Discussion: In February we will discuss The Giver and one other book to be decided, possibly Inkheart or Among the Hidden. We also would like to devote a portion of each meeting to a casual book sharing.
Coffeehouse: We’d like to have a valentine coffeehouse-type book discussion in February to discuss the above books and any others. We discussed decorating with a valentine theme. We would probably do this Saturday, Feb. 10 or Tuesday, Feb 13 in the evening. More on this later –
Other Ideas: We could do a mock trial based on a book. We also talked about getting someone from L.A. Fitness to come talk to us. Yamani said she might be able to get someone. We talked a little about the game”Panic at the Prom” and might do that close to prom time.
Other Activities: We talked about Dacula’s masquerade party Dec. 9. Each teen also took a few shelf-talkers for a mini book review.
Next Meeting: Tentatively Jan. 13

Our TAB’s Teen Fall Festival was a big hit. This is what we ended up doing ---
Most of the TABs and NHS volunteers were here by closing or shortly thereafter and we hurriedly prepared the branch. Black, orange and yellow streamers were draped over whatever could be reached, furniture was moved, craft supplies organized and put out, a “cake” walk and DDR set up, posters hung, refreshments set out with a big spider web as the background and a fat, grinning, homemade spider watching the goings-on. We actually ended up with 8 different activities and tied each one into a book title, with displays of those books at the activity and the poster including the book title as well. The activities and corresponding book titles were:
Dance, Dance Revolution – Sisterhood of the Traveling “Feet”
Pumpkin/Gourd Decorating – Al Capone Does My “Pumpkins”
Mask Making – Phantom of the Opera
Face Painting – Beauty
Mummy Wrap – Mummies
Board Games – Enders Game
Book Skit/Charades – Chronicles of “Norcross”
Cake Walk – Holes (If a teen landed in a “hole”, they got either a doughnut hole or a lizard.)
Refreshments – The Giver –“ of Drinks & Snacks”(We even had a title to go with the food!)
The festival was kicked off by Stupid Smart, the band of GCPL’s own Elisha Mooring and we really enjoyed and appreciated their playing for us. Then everyone made the rounds of the activities that interested them. The refreshment table was a popular spot also, with cold drinks, munchies and candy. Book checkout was available and TAB applications were displayed. Several expressed interest in joining. At the end of the festival, as teens left, we gave them a goodie bag with candy and a GetActive@YourLibrary bookmark. It was a lot of fun and a great way to Get Active!
Ashanti and I especially appreciate Glenda’s and Kyle’s
help. Kyle was our official photographer and
took lots of photos – until the batteries ran down!
We were also very happy that Justin got volunteers from Norcross High School to
work with our TAB on this for a true collaborative effort. Thanks to Justin and
all the volunteers! _______________________________________________________
Oct. 21, 2006
Present: 4 TAB Members – James, Tabitha, Andrew, and Olivia
1 Visitor – Bhavna
2 Staff – Suzanne and Ashanti
We were happy to welcome Bhavna, a Norcross High School volunteer, to our meeting. The main purpose of this meeting was to finalize our fall festival plans and make posters for each activity. We also encouraged the teens to enter the Teen Read Week raffle.
We worked on the posters and some stayed afterwards to continue working on them. Several teens planned to come during the week to work on posters and decorations.
Everyone is to be at the branch Friday, Oct.27 before we close and bring their 2-liter soft drinks and snacks if they have not already done so. It’s ok to wear costumes if they are appropriate. We will start setting up and decorating as soon as we close. The festival is slated to run from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. It is shaping up to be a really fun night!_____________________________________________________
Oct. 7, 2006
Present: 10 TAB Members – Nick, Olivia, James, Ling, An, Elizabeth,
Justin, Theresa, Andrew, and Tabitha
5 Visitors – Ms. Neuman, Deanna, Diamond, Philippe, and Phuong
1 Staff – Suzanne
We were happy to have our visitors from Norcross High School who are helping with our Fall Teen Festival. We were also glad to see a TAB alumna, Diamond who has moved out of Gwinnett but was here with Olivia.
We all introduced ourselves and launched right into our plans for our fall festival.
We decided which activities we will have and passed around a sign-up sheet. The activities are a live band, dance dance revolution, book scenes/charades, mummy wrap contest, “cake” walk, bean bag toss, board games, face painting, and decorating mini pumpkins or masks. Depending on several factors we may have to make changes in this later. Teens signed up also for set-up and clean up. We will have refreshments and goody bags with candy and Get Active bookmarks.
While enjoying lemonade and munchies we tried to come up with teen book titles to tie in with each activity – not an easy thing to do! The “cake” walk will be based on the book (& movie) Holes --- with doughnut holes and lizards as prizes. We’re still working on the others.
Justin is coordinating our plans with the Norcross High volunteers and doing a great job of communicating with everyone.
We will meet again Saturday, Oct. 21 at 10:30 to continue working on the festival.

Sept. 23, 2006
Present 3 TAB Members – James, Justin, and Theresa
2 Teen Reps – Suzanne and Ashanti
The main topic of today’s meeting was an October activity for Teen Read Week. While enjoying a snack, we discussed different ideas and decided on a Fall Festival in keeping with the theme Get Active @ Your Library. This will be for teens, grades 6 – 12 and will be Friday, Oct. 29 6:30 – 8:30 pm. The members present will spread the word at their schools, and hopefully get some of their classmates to join us as helpers as well as guests. In order to prepare, we’ve scheduled an additional TAB meeting, Saturday, Oct. 7.
We’ve postponed once again our discussion of The Giver till next meeting.
We also talked about the
fun we had at our Pizza/Game Night and decided to make the board games available
for our Fall Festival also.

Aug. 19, 2006
Present: 8 TAB Members – Justin, Nick, Andrew, Ling, An, Tabitha, Thereshana, and Yamani
2 Teen Reps – Suzanne and Ashanti
Welcome to our new member An!
After our ice-breaker “three truths and a lie”, Ashanti reported on possible changes for Teen Scene. We also discussed ideas for additional links.
We decided to use our shelf-talkers on the Teen end cap for our teens to promote books they’ve read.
We talked up Teen Read Week, especially the Poetry and Writing Contest and the other related activities. We had originally discussed a branch open mike night for October but because there will be a system-wide open mike night Oct 14, we’re going to do something else – to be decided at our next meeting.
The teens spent a while making their photo name badges, using a template but being creative with fonts, etc. Making the badges was fun and in fact we spent so long on that we ran out of time to have our book discussion on The Giver. We’ll do that at our next meeting.
Our next meeting will be Saturday, Sept. 23 at 10:30 am. Our back-to-school event is a pizza/game night 6:30 to 8:00 pm Friday, Sept. 8.

Present: 8 TAB Members – Yamani, Justin, Nick, Elizabeth, Ling, Andrew, Tabitha, and Thereshana
2 Teen Reps – Suzanne and Ashanti
Welcome to our new members – Ling and Thereshana
We introduced ourselves and told of any wacky or unusual talents we had to get to know one another a bit. While enjoying lemonade and snacks we had a lively discussion about several different aspects of “TABdom”.
Book Discussion: We passed around different books we had previously mentioned as possibilities for a book discussion and talked about how we wanted to do our discussion. We decided to all read The Giver from the teen book club kit and discuss it at our next meeting.
Teen Scene: We asked for ideas on redesigning Teen Scene and Ashanti will present these at her meeting with the Teen Scene committee.
Teen Read Week: Many ideas were tossed around. We particularly like the idea of an open mike night and will refine that idea a bit more later.
End of summer/Back to School Activity: Everyone would like to do something fun like dance dance revolution, a movie, pizza, ice cream, games, or any combination of these.
Whatever we decide we’ll do probably as an after hours event at the end of August or beginning of September. Ashanti and I will check with HQ about the possibility of a movie or ddr.
Photo Name Badges: We took photos for our name badges but we ran out of time to actually make them and will do that next time.

June 21, 2006
Present: 3 TAB Members – Tabitha, Andrew, and Nick
1 Teen Rep – Suzanne
We welcomed our 2 new members Tabitha and Andrew, and while enjoying lemonade and munchies jumped right into our discussion of the many things currently happening in the teen program.
· VRP – We gave game cards and coupons to those who had not yet signed up.
· New Teen Materials – I told the teens about the teen read-alongs and the new book club kits and showed them examples. We looked at the book club kit titles and listed what we might like to discuss later.
· Back to School Party – We discussed ideas such as ddr, pizza, movies, games.
· Teen Read Week – It’s not too early to be thinking about this so we started talking about ideas for October – maybe some kind of haunted library thing or readings.
· Shelf Talkers – I showed the teens a picture of Duluth’s shelf talkers and gave them several shelf talker forms for them to fill out and return. They were enthusiastic about doing these. (Thanks Duluth!)
· June Activity – Each teen was given a copy of the June puzzle (except for Andrew, who had already done it).
· Book Discussion – We were able to squeeze in a little time discussing favorite books.
· Next Meeting – We tentatively set the next meeting for July 22.
· Teen Program – Following our meeting, the teens and others watched and participated in “Shakespeare Said, Not Read in the Head” by Marty Barrett of Young Audiences. He did indeed “jazz up” the bard and made us see Shakespeare a bit differently! (Thanks Mark for your help).
MAY 19, 2006
Present: 5 TAB Members – Annie J., Justin, Nick, Olivia, & Yamani
12 Visitors (8 Teens and 4 Adults)
3 Staff Members – Toni, Cassandra, and Suzanne
Our May meeting was actually our Dance Dance Revolution/Game Night after hours from 7 – 9 pm. Thanks to Justin for his assistance and letting us use his newer DDR music. We had a great time dancing, the experienced as well as the newcomers, and those that were not dancing played games – Apples to Apples, Jenga, Scrabble, Clue, etc. We quenched our thirst and hunger with frosty lemonade and munchies. It was nice to be able to turn up the volume and not worry about disturbing other patrons. Some read while waiting their turn and those wishing to check out books could do so. There was something for everyone to enjoy!
We tentatively set our next meeting for June 10 but we might try to have it in conjunction with the June 21st program, Shakespeare Said, Not Read in the Head.

After welcoming our new member, Nick, and introducing everyone we settled into our comfy chairs to watch Clue – The Movie at our after hours teen event/TAB meeting.
We had a small group due to Spring Break trips but those who were here thoroughly enjoyed this wacky movie. We had popcorn and soft drinks, prizes and a drawing for the Clue movie poster – won by one of our visitors, Alex.
After the movie we had a little time to talk and check out books. We reminded all of our next meeting/activity which will be Friday,May 19 when we will host a combination Dance, Dance Revolution/Game Night. Details to follow.
Many thanks to E & O and to Robin for providing the movie and treats for us.

We only had two teens this month due to SAT testing. However, we were able to take Elizabeth's picture for her name tag and now everyone has a name tag. We discussed our upcoming movie night on April 7th and asked them to promote this with their friends and at school. We thought we might extend a personal invitation to the Duluth and Norcross TABs since this is during spring break and we might have a low turnout. Our next meeting is May 19th ( Friday night) to have the Dance, Dance Revolution, if the equipment is available. We decided to buy board games with our TAB allowance. We can have them to play when teens are waiting for their turn at DDR or just have a game day. They have always enjoyed having a game day. The book club idea is of interest, however the teens are reading adult books for school and would prefer to not be limited to just teen fiction. Our branch manager is looking into purchasing the bulletin board for the teens creative corner.
Our next meeting is scheduled for April 7th, at 7:00 PM during our movie night.

Today was our day to make nametags. We took pictures of each TAB member and gathered around the computer to individually design each nametag. Working with the photos and formats for making nametags took a while but was a lot of fun and educational. This took the entire meeting time but we did manage to squeeze in some doughnut-hole eatin’!
We also talked a little about other upcoming activities, especially Dance, Dance Revolution at the other branches, and encouraged the teens to go. Jeanne and I are going to check out the one at Suwanee and then hopefully set it up for PCR.
Because our nametags took so long to make, we decided to work on a name for our creative corner at the next meeting.
Our next meeting will be Saturday, March 18 at 10:30 to 11:30.

Our meeting today was primarily focused on the many current and upcoming teen activities as well as new program ideas. We discussed the cover art contest for To Kill A Mockingbird, and made sure all were aware of carefully following contest rules. We have been interested in doing “Dance, Dance Revolution” (ddr – the teens tell us) at our branch and we’re encouraging everyone who’s interested to go to one of the ddr tournaments offered in February at three other branches, Suwanee being the closest to us. Jeanne and I will try to attend that one to see how it’s done and then set it up for PCR later. We’re also looking forward to our CLUE movie night April 7.
We’re planning a “creative corner” in our teen section for our teens to display anything creative – artwork, poetry, prose, calligraphy, whatever, - and discussed possible names for it. A quote from literature is one idea. We’ll try to decide next meeting what to call it. We also plan to take our members’pictures for permanent name tags and hang them in the teen section, probably in the creative corner.
We encouraged everyone to bring friends to our meetings and activities and to talk up TAB membership. Justin suggested re-designing the application and also took some TAB applications to give out at school.
The remainder of our meeting was spent brainstorming for activities that would be fun and attract teens. We talked about a cooking activity, painting ceiling tiles with book covers – either in the teen area or children’s area, a car wash, and a softball game. Jeanne and I will look into the feasibility of these activities.
Our next meeting is Feb. 4 at 10:30 am.

Teens Present: Elizabeth, Yamani, Anni J., Brittney
Reps Present: Suzanne and Jeanne
We started off our meeting with an “icebreaker” to get the creative juices flowing. The first line of a teen book was read to all (but the book itself was not revealed). Each teen added her own line to the story until we came up with something most creative! It turned out the original storyline was from Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli.
We then had a book discussion about some of our favorite books. We also had the list of the top 10 teen books sponsored by YALSA during Teen Read Week and had most of the books present for everyone to look at. We enjoyed treats during our discussion.
We talked about some activities for the future and decided to have our next meeting in January.

TAB Meeting Minutes – October 22, 2005
Teens Present: Justin, Annie J., Olivia, Brittney
Reps Present: Suzanne & Jeanne
We had a wonderful Events & Outreach program today, Mime and Mask attended by our TAB members and others. All together about 10 (teens and adults) were here and many other customers enjoyed watching from other spots in the library. Our performer donned various costumes and hand-made masks, and after giving the background of a particular culture’s rituals, performed dances and movements from those rituals. He was excellent. Thanks to Paula and the rest of E&O!
We followed Mime and Mask with our own duct-tape activity – making wallets and purses-which were quite well done! We talked more about decorating the teen area and about our book discussion for our next meeting when the teens may come dressed as a favorite book character if they wish. Our next meeting is Saturday, Nov. 5 at 10:30 am.

Peachtree Corners Branch TAB Minutes – Oct. 8, 2005, 1:00 p.m.
(In Combination with Magnet Madness)
Present: 2 Teens – Annie J. and Olivia J.
2 Teen Reps – Suzanne & Jeanne
We signed in and made name tags and continued our discussion from the last meeting about upcoming projects. The teens are going to come prepared to talk about a favorite book next time and we may also try to do the duct tape activity.
Leigh instructed us in making magnet frames and then we jumped right in to our project. There was a lot of creativity shown with all the materials Leigh had for us to use. We ate cookies from Fire Mountain and made really cute frames.
We decided on Saturday, Nov. 5, 10:30 am for our next meeting.

TAB Meeting Minutes – Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005
Teens Present: Annie J., Elizabeth, Anni P., Olivia, Yamani, and Justin
Teen Reps Present: Suzanne Y. and Jeanne M.
After sign-in and name tags and getting into Ryan’s/Fire Mountain’s cookies we had our business meeting:
We congratulated Olivia on winning the August teen monthly activity “Guess the #!”.
We talked about a Spring Prom “hair event” to see what interest there might be. There was not great enthusiasm but more of a “yeah, sure – I guess” response.
Upcoming and current activities were discussed – Amongst others, Magnet Madness 10/8, Mask & Mime 10/22, and the Teen Read Week writing contest with 9/22 deadline.
We decided to make picture name tags at a future meeting.
A later start time for our meetings – 11:00 am instead of 10:30 am - was discussed but everyone wanted to keep it at 10:30.
We talked about possibly dressing as a favorite book character for our November meeting and having just a casual discussion about books that we’ve read. We’ll decide for sure in October.
Then – for the fun part – We had an index card and masking tape building contest. Justin explained how to do it. With three teams of 2 each and a 4th team of Jeanne and myself bringing up the rear, we all tried to build the tallest, most creative, or strongest structure in a limited amount of time. We had a lot of fun doing this and with a winner in each category, all the teens won paperback books. Thanks Justin for a great idea!
Our next meeting is to be in conjunction with Magnet Madness, Saturday, Oct.8 at 1:30 pm.

Teens Present: Anni P., Olivia J., Yamani R., Annie J., Justin L., Brittney M., Elizabeth H.
Teen Reps Present: Suzanne Y.and Jeanne M.
The first order of business was to sign in and do name tags. We welcomed a new member, Elizabeth, and everyone introduced themselves. I told the teens about the new schedule of activities and passed around a copy of the schedule. We talked a little about the upcoming PCR activities, Magnet Madness 10/8 and Mime & Mask 10/22. The teens were reminded about our current monthly activity.
The rest of the meeting time was given over to brainstorming about activities and programs they would be interested in doing. Many ideas were discussed, among them a talent show, a fashion-type show but with dressing up as book characters (maybe for Halloween), a book discussion, a collage and other decorating ideas for the teen area, making crafts from everyday items (junk!), and duct-tape crafts. We would like to do the duct-tape craft in September but realize we might have to wait until later for that. “Plan B” is a similar activity Justin suggested – a contest with index cards and masking tape-to see who could build the strongest or highest structure.
We decided to meet again Sept 17, and wrapped up our meeting, but not before scarfing down some of the delicious, warm blueberry muffins provided by Ryan’s/Fire Mountain.

1 Rep - Suzanne Young
After signing in, we discussed the teen summer activities, including the different monthly activities and opportunities to win coupons and chances for the computer drawing. Our members were asked about any bands they thought might be interested in performing in the July 22 Garage Band Concert.
The teens were invited to the bowling party at Jillians June 14 and invitations were given to those present.
We got down to the business of working on our drama presentation "The LIttle Red Hen". We talked about the possiblilty of doing some childrens' songs and/or finger plays when we do the play. We then finished editing the script. While Rivvi and Anni typed it up and made copies, Rini and Rene worked on a flyer which they'll finish & get back to us later.

April 23, 2005
Tabs present: Justin, Anni, Rini, Marilyn, Rene, Rikki, Olivia, Brittney, Natalie, Yamani
Reps: Jeanne Mullins & Suzanne Young
We spent most of the time working on our play, "The Little Red Hen", which will be presented to the younger children in our kids room mid-summer. We selected Saturday, July 9th for our Debut. We divided into two groups to work on our scenery and scripts, while we munched on cookies from Fire Mountain/Ryans.
Everyone had input on possible dates for our play. With our teen's busy schedule, it was difficult to decide on the best time, but we settled on Saturday, July 9th. We also decided to have our next work session on Saturday, May 7th at 10:30 am. We will work on publicity at that time as well as finish up our script editing and sets, costumes, etc......
We also discussed the bowling party on June 14th, 4-6 pm.
Of course anyone can come to our production of "The Little Red Hen"
So put July 9th on your calendar. See you there!!!
MARCH 19TH
We had a great meeting starting off with cookies from Fire on the Mountain/Ryans. The teens began sketching ideas for our sets to be used in the up and coming drama; The Little Red Hen. We have the characters assigned and now need the sets along with costumes and props. A script has been written but needs to be edited as we have limited space for our production and the characters can not be too active. The teens spent most of the time working on the sets and thinking of how the background should reflect the books images. We have a lot of work to do still. I hope we can get everything together in time. So much left to do and really limited time! We always say, “we work better under pressure."
We also discussed the bowling party.
Our next meeting will be Saturday, April 16th at 10:30.

FEBRUARY 5TH - 10:30 - 12:00 AM
TABS PRESENT: Jonathan, Brittney, Anni, Rivvi, Rene, Rikki, Natalie, Katie, Olivia, & Yamani
First we signed in and made name tags as usual. We discussed getting all the photo releases from the parents.
We also discussed "Read Across America" to celebrate Dr. Suess's birthday and we have several teens interested in reading that afternoon. Also covered the new movie night coming up at Lilburn and Centerville, The Princess Bride, February 25th @ 7:30 - 9:30 PM. We also discussed what the other TABs were doing.
Mentioned a book discussion to see if our TABs were interested. Some were and we may have one in the summer. Also talked about a food drive to help the community. Some teens were interested in learning how to make a website. We have a teen who can instruct how to do this and we may try this later. Also discussed the February "Love Connection" activity where you can get a Sonic coupon.
The main subject of our meeting was our upcoming drama, "The Little Red Hen". We picked parts for each character. Then teens who didn't have a part volunteered to help with costumes, sets, and scripts. We hope to be ready by April/May. The teens decided to meet again on February 19th because the beginning of March is too busy for them.(SATs)

Present: Teen Reps - Jeanne & Suzanne
TAB members: Jonathan, Olivia, Natalie, Brittney, Anni, & Yamani
Committees were established for Scribes, Chess, Passive Programs, Decorating, How to Research a Paper, and Computer Classes. The committees are as follows:
SCRIBES : Olivia, Brittney & Anni were interested in keeping the minutes of the meetings.
CHESS: Jonathan, with Olivia's help agreed to look into a chess club and/or chess instruction.
PASSIVE: We discussed our current monster movie guessing contest with Chick-Fil-A coupons
PROGRAMS: for participants and a prize for the winner.
DECORATING: Natalie volunteered to be in charge of decorating the Teen area. Our board members decided to make individual, 1/2 poster size letters to spell "TEEN". Natalie will make a "T", Yamani -E, Brittney-E, and Olivia -N. We also discussed other ideas for displays & decorating with posters.
COMPUTER CLASSES : Brittney will work on some ideas for possible computer classes. We will check with Headquarters about the possibility of a class that teaches Computer Basics, Web Design, and Powerpoint for teens.
RESEARCH PAPER 101: We discussed the possibility of having a workshop that would focus on sources for research as well as implementing different formats of reports..., book reports, term papers, etc...
We talked generally about activities surrounding Teen Read Week, Oct. 17th-23rd and asked our TAB members to check on the advertising at their school to see if it was visible. We had many future program ideas. Dramatic presentations seemed to be a common interest for our TABs. Possibly a game show format or scenes from "A Series of Unfortunate Events". They expressed an interest ina political debate, but we agreed time was not available to do something like that. Movies would also be something teens would like to see. Anni suggested book discussions on titles that might be on college board exams, particularly the classics or maybe international literature. Everyone had good ideas and input.
TABs also suggested we update our music collection, especially Inspirational. They would like to have Teen magazines in the Teen area if possible.
We agreed the best time for future meetings will be on the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM, so our next meeting will be Saturday, November 6th at 10:00 AM.
