Our Literary Costume Contest went really well. We had 9 teens and a visitor.  All of the teens had really great costumes ranging from King Arthur to Anne Frank.  We also had a trivia scavenger hunt which everyone seemed to really enjoy.

We had to cancel our planned meeting for the 11th of November, since the library will be closed; because everyone is going to be busy for the holidays we have decided just to wait for our December 1st meeting (Saturday at 10:30 AM).

Discussion:

We reminded the teens about upcoming GCPL Teen Events including the Real World CSI at various branches. A flyer was distributed with a listing of the summer planned teen events.

TAB Movie night at Centerville- This would not be possible without purchasing a license for $75 for showing one movie. It was determined that this was not the best way to spend our Centerville TAB funds.

Dance Idea- Our TAB members continue to be interested in a library sponsored dance. We determined that this was too big of an event for our resources and time but offered them a Dance Dance Revolution session instead. There was enough interest in this to proceed with the plans so we will reserve the equipment for one of our summer meetings.

Several TAB members inquired about volunteer and/or employment opportunities for the summer.

Today’s project: TAB Tote Bags: The teens had a wonderful time decorating their tote bags. We did run into some difficulties with some of the art materials but most problems were resolved and, in general, the teens were pleased with the results.

Next Meeting:

Book Club Selection

Next Meeting Date:

Continue decorating tote bags and set date for our Dance, Dance, Revolution.

Centerville TAB Meeting Notes 10-15-05

Present: Jay, Raj, Neil, Leigh S. (facilitator)

We had three new members attend today (brothers) but no established members who had attended previous meetings. The facilitator gave a brief history on the development of the Teen Advisory Boards at each of the branches and a sample of some of the programming from the first year of “focus on the teen”.

Name Tags: Members made temporary name tags decorated with google eyes for Halloween. We discussed the group’s previous decision to make permanent, photo name tags. The boys attending today liked the idea. Photo release forms were passed out and were signed by the boy’s father at the end of the meeting. Photos were taken and the name tags will be constructed, decorated and laminated next session.

Book Discussion- The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau: One of the three brothers, Jay, had read the book and really liked it. He gave a description of the book to his brothers with additional information supplemented by the facilitator. Jay was very excited to find there was a sequel to the book and he was eager to get a copy.
