Share Your Library Stories

We celebrate Love Your Library Week every year in April. This page gives you the opportunity to advocate for Gwinnett County Public Library in a different way.

In this time of great change, we think it is important to capture your library stories, so they will be remembered and retold. Library statistics will tell one part of the library’s past, present, and future story. Your experiences will tell the rest of it.

If you have a story about how a library experience made a difference in your life, we hope you will share it. Please place your name and email address on your comment. If your entry is posted, only your first name and last initial will be listed.

Thank you for sharing your library experiences with us.

Libraries Matter

I feel it is easy for people who do not get involved in the library to want to keep reducing and chipping away at hours and money that go to them. The library has made a difference in my childs life and mine. The story times and other activities opened up our world and gave us something educational to do. My child has learned so much from the library. I think if just a few people who dont know the benefits of the libraries were to see first hand, the positive impact they have, it would make them more likely to support instead of phasing them out.

Love the library

We visit every week as a family and often I come to the library with no destination in mind (as in what book I will choose) but I always leave with something wonderful. I don't know what I would do without the library, the bookstore doesn't quite measure up.

Technologically Savvy

Gwinnett's libraries are technologically savvy. The self-serve check out system is wonderful. I also like the email reminders. It wins hands-down over other public libraries in Georgia!

The public library is the

The public library is the most valuable resource for getting books that would normally be hard to obtain. I hope the libraries stay full of books and are able to add to their collections. Some of the librarians have left a positive, lasting impression. The friendliness some of them have can make such a difference in ones day. (A.C.)

Love of Libraries

I have been reading for as long as I can remember and Gwinnett County has the best libraries I have been to. And even better we have great librarians too.

People need a public place to go

Now that Borders books is closing and bookstores are on the brink of going away public libraries are more important than ever. A public library is one place that we can all feed our minds and take time out.

For all generations....

I have been reading the posts from this page and love everyone's comments. There are a lot of posts from moms about how much the library means to their beginning readers. I just want to say how important our Grayson Library is to all the generations of our family. When my kids were younger, they loved story time, etc. Now that they are nearly done with high school, the library is their "go-to place" for so many incredible resources. For my husband and me, the library is our life-line for information, fiction, on-line helps...you name it, we can find it at the library.
Thank you to Gwinnett County for working hard to keep our public libraries, and thank you to the hard working staff at the Grayson Library for all you do to help our community.

We'd be 'intellectually poor' without the library.

From a young age my daughter was a voracious reader. I used to purchase books at the "Friends of the Library" book sales, then later at their store in Discover Mills. Buying and housing all the books she wanted to read was soon not an option - she reads incredibly FAST! Borrowing from the library has allowed us to read a wide range of titles and topics, and to gain knowledge and to experience adventures that would otherwise not be available to us. Thank you, thank you, thank you! -Donna

Books

Gwinnett county public library has a great big selection of books to choose from than many other libraries in the area. I am a lover of books so I like this location a lot. I would really suggest trying it out, especially if you like books. Maya

The Best Summer

I watched as a librarian introduced a young girl to what may have been her first library book. In a voice loud enough for all to hear the girl said, "This is going to be the best summer, ever."
Then it got better.
She followed with, "This is going to be the best life, ever."

Need I say more about the value of the library and its librarians.

Peter

The library has had a

The library has had a positive impact in both my sons life and mine. If it werent for the library we wouldnt have had near as many books to learn from. His learning from the library started when he was just a baby. I would check out books to read to him, and it brought us many hours of together time, cuddle time, and memorable moments. I remember him getting up at 3a.m. wanting to read a book when he was just 2yrs old. Thank you libraries, for having books available.

Digital Library Lover

I am a digital library lover. While I can still appreciate a hardbook from Centerville branch, the digital library has made me a book junkie. I may download and listen to books all the time. I do a lot of book request online and it's great to know the book or disc is ready for me to pickup. I love saving time.

Perfect

Our Hamilton library is a perfect place to study for all ages. Quiet enviroment, many resources, helpful librarians.
Thank u

We love our library!!

Our entire family is participating in the summer reading program this year! I just noticed this link to "Love Your Library" and read it as I clicked. My son immediately chimed in, "Oh Yeah! I love the library a lot!" Well, that sums it up! :-)

My Favorite "Mom" Story

I lost my mother to cancer only two months ago, and I fondly re-tell this as my favorite "mom moment". . . Reading is my absolute favorite thing to do in this world. I came to realize as an adult that my love of reading was not shared by many other adults around me, and began to think about why that is. I thought it had a lot to do with my mom. When I was a child, my mom took me and my two siblings to the library every single day during our summer break. I remember spending hours there - reading books and participating in their summer activities. I called my mom and thanked her - telling her that I realize that not a lot of adults have the same love for reading that I do, and that I feel she really instilled the love of reading in me, and I wanted to thank her for taking me to the library every day during the summer. My mom replied with, "Oh honey, I appreciate that, but the only reason why we went to the library every day was because your father was cheap and wouldn't let me turn on the air conditioning until August. It was too hot to stay in the house all day long, and the library was air conditioned." So, thank you to the library system for having air conditioning and instilling the love of reading in me!

Something Borrowed, Something New

Our library has opened a whole new world for me and my children. I can now boast a vast knowledge of trains, dinosaurs, the ocean, and garbage trucks (just to name a few things). How many 3 year olds do you know that can name every single part and type of garbage truck. I too have found wonderful books on parenting, faith, relationships and my favorite crime novels.

I understand the allure of the Kindle and Nook, but there is nothing like having your little ones turn the page as you read them a bedtime story or having a great feeling of accomplishment when you look at a 500 page novel and realize that you finished it in record time!

Thank you for allowing us to borrow a book or two so that we can experience a whole new world everyday!

I love my Library...and my Librarians!

I have been an active member of my local library in Grayson, GA since it opened just a few years ago. I cannot imagine my life without my library! Just the sight and smell of all those wonderful books, cd's, dvd's, etc, get my heart racing! More importantly, I have become friends with the dedicated staff of my library. They selflessly offer hours upon hours of assistance to our community. In addition, they frequently tolerate hour and pay cuts simply to keep our libraries open and operational. Now that is dedication! What a precious and valuable resource! I would gladly pay higher taxes if it means maintaining these treasures. Thank you, Grayson librarians (and all the others around our county), from Ruthanna, Chris, Carl, and Anna.

Sincerely, Ruthanna

Love the Library!

I love the Gwinnett County libraries. They are a delight to visit. The people on staff are friendly and efficient. The surroundings are lovely, and the shelves are filled with every book imaginable. The computer system makes it so easy to use the library. The library enhances my quality of life every day because every day I read, listen to a book on cd, or return and check out more. Sometimes - like today - I do all three! The library did an excellent job meeting our needs when cutbacks were necessary. They did it without complaining, and they did it well and with as little impact as possible on the public. I am very happy to spend my tax money on the library. It is an invaluable service and an asset to our community. Our excellent library system is one of the best things about retired life!

Gwinnett libraries are great!!!

I moved here last year and I am totally enjoying the Gwinnett libaries.I especially love the story times and doggie tales with my daughter. The family series are just great! And the staff is always so very nice and helpful.I'm a big fan of the library!

We love our library

We recently moved back to the Atlanta area from a small town in South Carolina. While we loved our library there, it in no way compares to the Gwinnett Library System. My husband made fun of me for declaring we couldn't buy a house anywhere but in Gwinnett, for I LOVE the Gwinnett County Library! We are homeschoolers and avid readers and we simply couldn't survive and thrive without it. We consider ourselves very lucky to have a truly world class library here in Gwinnett County!

Former Library Patrons

Librarians like to help and they like to search. I am proud to say that one former student from my public library went on to graduate from Harvard and Harvard Law School and another now works as a theoretical physicist at Berkely. Both of them were obviously smarter than me even way back when...but I like to think I helped a little bit along their way by connecting them with information they were seeking. I guess I knew them "when".

I love libraries and am glad to pay taxes to support Gwinnett's libraries.
