Fee Based Services Policy

Some services provided by the library are offered at an additional charge to recover costs associated with providing service beyond the basic level, or to an individual who does not pay Gwinnett County taxes. Copying/printing costs and fees for out-of-county library cards are set by the Library Board, with changes made as necessary.

Braille production

Customers may produce Braille documents using equipment in the Lawrenceville Branch. There is no charge for the first ten pages; thereafter a per page charge applies.

Fax Requests
July 10, 2006

This service is provided to offer increased convenience to customers in their requests for the retrieval and delivery of answers to their information needs. Individuals and businesses may send and receive information utilizing the library's fax machines when the fax is directly related to a library information transaction. There are many commercial fax services available for other personal and business fax requests.

Due to copyright restrictions, the number of items which will be copied and faxed is limited to one article from any single issue of a periodical or one entry or chapter from any single book. Faxed information will include a cover sheet which provides notice of copyright. The library will not fax copies of materials for which contractual agreements prohibit photocopying.

When materials must be faxed between branches, it is difficult to determine in advance whether the information meets the customer's need. For this reason, the library does not charge for faxed information when the customer in the receiving branch evaluates its usefulness and returns the material to the desk. There is a per page charge for all other faxed copies.

Interlibrary Loan
 July 10, 2006

Interlibrary loan service permits wise spending of collection development funds by giving customers access to materials owned by other libraries. In some cases, it is not possible to purchase a title because it is out of print. In other cases, it is not cost effective to purchase a title because the anticipated demand is low.

In order for customers not to be penalized by the library's decision not to purchase a title, most charges associated with interlibrary loan transactions are paid by the library system. Exceptions are census microfilm rental and other transactions requiring pre-payment.

There is a per page charge for copies from the photocopy machine or the reader/printer.
